Twitter help pleaseeeeeeeeeeee?

Probably a stupid question to those who are frequent users of twitter, but i am struggling to use it! How does it work... all these "@" and "#" its so confussing. i dont know how to get followers or how anything works. So please the more the better... advice on how to work it all :) thank you!
