If a direct message is sent to you by a celebrity on Twitter, is it only to you?

I got a direct message from a celebrity which started to make me have a complete freak out, I was really happy, then I started to wonder- Is a direct message actually from the celebrity to only you? I'm wondering if maybe it was sent to multiple followers of the celebrity, or if it was sent individually to me. Thanks!
