How long one can live on rented understandings?

becoming the follower of some one else also need the wisdom BUT not using the own wisdom to find out what other saying and what is our own wisdom says and who is right or what is right.........where it will take you in the end ,is this matter or not ? what is your opinion? please. thanks.
